Day 17 - Southern AB Equine Centre

The Southern Alberta Equine Centre provides qualified instruction for youth in Pole Bending, Barrel Racing, Goat Tying, Tie-Down Roping, Team Roping, Break-a-way Roping, and Steer Wrestling.

The focus of our programs is on youth instruction. We also provide an evening once a week for adults and seniors to practice their skills in tie-down-roping and team roping.

The program has been in existence since 2009. Over the years we have helped hundreds of youth develop their skills. The mission of the Southern AB Equine Centre is to promote the sport of equine events with the highest type of conduct and sportsmanship. We want to preserve the Western Heritage and offer the privilege of family bonding. We also promote the therapeutic value of the human-animal interaction. The Youth Instructional Classes and Clinic provide students with one on one qualified instruction. This assists children and youth to build confidence, emotional awareness, social skills, trust and empathy, develop problem-solving skills, and develop and maintain relationships.

In 2021, we had approximately 50 youth participate in multiple event instruction. During the past 2 years, youth have experienced a sense of isolation due to Covid-19 restrictions. The spring clinic and the weekly classes allowed the youth to interact with peers who have similar interests and has created a strong bond between many of the participants.
